Come behind the scenes and discover how Nutopia was created, from the first idea to the final scent. Learn how roasted peanuts, dark chocolate, and sustainably sourced ingredients came together to shape a modern gourmand fragrance unlike anything else.. Here's the story behind the scent.
While the world was craving vanilla, we went nuts.
- CRA-YON Team
Why We Created NUTOPIA: A New Kind of Gourmand Perfume
In a landscape where most gourmand perfumes lean heavily on vanilla, caramel, and sugar-frosting fantasies, CRA-YON wanted to rewrite the formula. Nutopia started with a single question:
What happens if you make roasted peanuts the star of the show?
“We knew it was right when we stopped calling it a fragrance and started calling it a mood.”
Nutopia was designed not just to smell delicious, but to feel like wearable self-celebration, creamy, grounding, and a little addictive.
Why Nutopia Breaks the Rules of Traditional Gourmand Perfumes
Nutopia started as a mistake.
A trial formula with an overdose of peanut and burnt sugar made its way onto skin during a late review session.
No one was supposed to like it.
But no one could stop smelling it.
"It caught us off guard. It wasn’t part of the plan,” says Niclas Lydeen.
“But it had a presence. Something instinctively right. So we followed that feeling."
That mistake became the turning point. Nutopia isn’t a sweet fragrance. It’s not trying to be liked. It’s a nutty, woody, magnetic mood crafted for the kind of person who wears contradictions like accessories.

The Role of Nuts in Perfume: Why Peanut Is the New Vanilla
“Nuts are not the easiest to approach in perfumery. And I am particularly proud of Nutopia by @houseofcra_yon. An overdose of Peru Balsam exalted with peanuts, chocolate and sexy benzoin. Powdery and earthy notes of Orris and Vetiver, softened with Sandalwood are supporting this nutty cocooning elixir.”
- Kevin Mathys, Perfumer
Nutopia’s bold profile builds on roasted peanut, a note rarely explored at this level. Instead of going overtly sweet, perfumer Kevin Mathys built Nutopia around balsamic, woody, and powdery tones, creating depth, comfort, and wearability.
